Abstract

A cam structure is described that offers a number of advantages. It eliminates the need for costly precision machining, insures uniformity of cam loads, and permits modular length of cam arms. The cams may be investment cast in standard lengths with or without subsequent machining. Cam structures of this nature have utility in apparatus such as that described in the preceding article. Such apparatus, sometimes referred to as an Intelligent Motion Machine, makes use of both linear and rotary cams for controlling direction and extent of movement of parts of other elements, for example, during manufacturing operations.
