This sequential logic array uses ordinary addressable random-access storage arrays to perform the same logical operations as are performed by a programmable logic array (PLA). This sequential logic mechanism solves the various product terms in a sequential manner, as opposed to the simultaneous manner employed by PLAs. Thus, it is a bit, but not much, slower than a PLA. It is, however, more flexible and much easier to program than a PLA. It is particularly well suited for providing low cost and easy to reprogram machine tool controllers and process controllers.
