Abstract

The shunt bar assembly 5 is shown in an environment wherein an upper cross member 6 and a lower cross member 7 are being projection resistance welded to a channel 8 by a welder which includes a stationary lower electrode 10 and a movable upper electrode 11. Fig. 2 shows the electrodes 10 and 11 separated prior to the welding operation during which the work pieces are welded to one another at the locations of projections 13. Fig. 1 shows an end view of the showing of Fig. 2 following the weld cycle, with the electrodes still in the closed position and pressure applied between the machine electrodes to compress the work pieces and shunt bar assembly 5 therebetween. The single weld cycle welds both the upper cross member 6 and lower cross member 7 to the channel flanges 14 and 12, respectively.
