Abstract

The assembly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 includes a suspension 4 and a tongue 5. To permit these two elements to be formed of differing materials or different thicknesses of the same or different materials, the parts are separately fabricated and laser seam welded or resistance welded to supporting cross member 7. The suspension 4 and tongue 5 are each formed with a tab 8 and attached respectively to the elongated side elements 9 and the end of the tongue 5 by webs 10. Using the alignment holes 11, tabs 8 serve to position suspension 4 and tongue 5 relative to the cross member 7 during the welding operation and are removed by severing the webs 10 following the welding of the tongue 5 and side elements 9 to cross member 7.
