Abstract

A mass storage system has diverse components with multi-pathing possible. Multi-pathing is under control of a mass storage control which has a pair of controlling ports 0 and 1. A tape control library is controlled by the mass storage control via a library control LC which sequences an accessor which moves along the open face of a storage compartment wall. A plurality of data cartridges are stored in the cartridge wall and accessed by the accessor. The library also includes a plurality of DRDs or tape drives which receive the access data cartridges, automatically open the cartridge and perform data recording and readback operations. The DRD then returns the data cartridge to the accessor for storage in the compartment wall.
