Native Time of Day Clock for a Data Processor

A time-of-day clock mechanism is described which can be included as an integral part of the central processing unit (CPU) of a data processor without adding very much additional hardware to the CPU. A comparator mechanism is associated with the time-of-day clock for providing a low resolution interval timer at little added cost.
