Manual Insertion Device for Pluggable Modules
To insert a pluggable module into its corresponding socket, a means for
perpendicular insertion and seating of the module without damage to the cap,
seal, chips, etc., is required.
Referring to Fig. 1, the insertion of a module 3 is accomplished by first
placing the module over the intended socket with the circuit card or board in
either a vertical or horizontal position. The tool is then placed over the module
and held to the circuit board surface by the frame 6 with hand pressure. Spring
latches 10 are in alignment with the connector housing 1 latching slots.
With the handle 8 in the palm of the hand and the fingers in the radius slots of
frame 6, the handle and frame are squeezed, allowing the spring latch closer 4 to
push the spring latches 10 into the connector housing 1. By further squeezing,
the pusher block 5 will perpendicularly insert the module into the pluggable
socket, as shown in Fig. 2. The tool is then removed from the card, leaving the
pluggable module in its connected position.
This tool provides the field with an efficient way of safely inserting a
pluggable module for engineering changes and system upgrades, and it can also
be used during machine assembly.
