Abstract

Fig. 1 shows a ribbon feed mechanism for a printer. Ribbon guide posts 10 and 11, located proximate spool 12, are made of metal and are vertically mounted in parallel separated by a narrow gap. Ribbon guide posts 13 and 14 are an identical set located near spool 15. As spool 15 rotates in a clockwise manner, the ribbon fabric 16 slides between posts 10 and 11 with a narrow wrap angle. A metal eyelet 17 is fastened a short distance from the end of ribbon 16 attached to spool 12. Because eyelet 17 is thicker than the gap, eyelet 17 will not pass between posts 10 and 11. When ribbon 16 reaches the end of its travel, eyelet 17 is pulled into contact with posts 10 and 11.
