The complementary collector driver provides voltage Rain within both output drivers for balanced, high speed output transitions. The Darlington configuration of T1, T2 provides ample drive at the base of T2 with minimal input current requirements at node A. Diode D1 is connected to the base of T1 to produce sufficient VCE at the collector of T2 to generate the required +0.5 volt Up level from the +1.4-volt supply. VCE T2 = 1.4 - VBE T2 - VBE T1 + VD1.
