Liquid crystal displays containing a high-order parameter dye and a low-order parameter dye exhibit a change in hue when the display is switched, which is at a higher contrast than that obtainable by using an external filter. An example of this type of display contains a purple dye of high-order parameter (0.64) and an orange dye of low-order parameter (0.27). Switching this display changed the color from a deep red to orange.
