Present methods for producing photochemical holes for optical storage suffer the disadvantage of forming undesirable phonon sidebands. A method which produces narrow photochemical holes without the phonon sidebands involved narrow band laser irradiation and simultaneous or subsequent broad band (white light) irradiation.
