Abstract

Print hammer element 10, made from flat spring steel, has a base portion 11 attachable to an electromagnet actuator. The base 11 is attached below line B-B to a mounting surface. The upper portion 12 is tapered with flanges 13 and 14. A hammer blade 15 is attached by welding, for example, to the joint of the flanges 13 and 14. Substantially all flexure occurs between lines A-A and B-B. The hammer element is operable at very high repetition rates, is lightweight, and is torsionally very rigid. For that reason, blade element 15 can be several characters wide and would be useful for dot matrix printing.
