In Fig. 1A, the programmable scanner does not present out-of-scan time
compression. It is assumed that lines E4 to E10, but not line E8, have to be
scanned. The input lines are connected to selector SEL conditioned by a
STROBE signal. The maximum and minimum limits E10 and E4 are
programmed through thumbwheels THM1 and THW2. THW1 is connected to
programmable counter CTR1, and THW2 provides a reference code to
comparator COMP1 having its second inputs connected to the outputs of counter
CTR1. When counter CTR1 reaches the value corresponding to the maximum
scan limit, a signal provided by comparator COMP1 loads counter CTR1 with the
minimum scan value.
Demultiplexer circuit DMPX, with four inputs and sixteen outputs, is
connected to counter CTR1. The output of the demultiplexer, which is active at a
given time, corresponds to the selector input which is taken into account at this
time. Thus, the outputs of the demultiplexer are used to inhibit the selector
action, when desired, through the MASK switches SW and the gate arrangement.
In Fig. 1B, an out-of-scan time compression is insured since two clock signals
