Abstract

In order to attach a cold plate 10 to a heat sink 12, a good flat surface contact is required between the two in order to obtain a low thermal resistance across the gap of the mating surfaces. Various attachment methods have been used, such as a plurality of screw means placed strategically about the surfaces to be joined, cams, quarter-turn fasteners, etc. All of these methods have presented problems, such as the length of time required for assembly/disassembly of the plurality of screw means, in addition to specifying torque requirements per screw in order to obtain a flat mating of the parts to obtain a low thermal interface resistance.
