Fig. 1 illustrates a schematic end view of the paper feed, platen and print head for a thermal printer of the dot matrix type. In Fig. 1, a rotating drive platen 1 engages paper which is thermally sensitive, indicated by numeral 5, through the action of a pinch or pressure roller 6 forcing paper 5 against the surface of drum or platen 1 to withdraw the paper in the direction of the arrow shown. This action draws the paper 5 around roller 2, and tension is maintained by controlling frictionally or by braking means attached to rollers 7 through which the paper 5 passes. With the tension adjusted, the paper 5 is held in contact with the surface of the arcuately shaped thermal print head 4.
