The machine utilizes a jacket-flexible magnetic disk assembly 46 of the type disclosed in U. S. Patent 3,668,658, and the disk 48 thereof is clamped between rotatable disk drive spindle 24 and collet 40 which enters the central opening 52 in spindle 24. The machine includes two magnetic heads 28 and 30 of the tunnel erase type carried by carriage 26 slideably disposed on guide rods 88. The heads extend through a radial slot in the Jacket of assembly 46 into contact with disk 48, and a pair of elongate pads 36 and 38 extend along and through the opposite aligned radial slot in the jacket into contact with disk 48 for holding disk 48 in data transferring contact with heads 28.
