Validity checking provides relatively fail-safe error detection because it requires a signal of successful completion whereas error checking assumes proper operation unless a failure signal is received. Validity and error checking use substantially the same error detection circuits but differ in the manner in which error conditions are latched and signaled to error processing logic.
