Abstract

In small systems that do full region swapping, the time spent transferring the region to/from auxiliary storage may become excessive. Partial swapping permits smaller amounts of the region to be swapped, thus reducing overhead and improving system performance. In addition, performance leveling occurs because of a more balanced degree of swapping for each program.
