Single Mounting Block For Multiple Transducers
A plurality of magnetic transducers are positioned in a single mounting block
for use in a tape apparatus.
Each transducer is fixed in the center of a respective cylindrical post, and the
transducers are contoured on the individual posts.
A mounting block 1, which accepts the posts, is placed in a holding fixture
that is positioned on a microscope. Epoxy is inserted in the holes 2 of the block,
and the transducers are placed in the mounting holes. Adjusting screws which
contact the post mount are used for moving the heads to a desired position and
On the holding fixture, a centerline location, corresponding to the centerline
of the head rotor that accommodates the heads, is located by using the
microscope optics. An optical glass base is placed on the fixture. The glass base
has lines scribed thereon which represent the gap of the head, track width of the
head, and gap-to-gap positions.
During adjustment, specification parameters, such as pitch, roll azimuth,
apex, and the penetration of each individual head, are observed. When all the
conditions have been satisfied by adjustment and alignment, the fixture is placed
in an oven to cure the epoxy, thus securing the heads in position. When all the
heads are located and cured, the multihead mounting block is positioned in a
cavity provided on the head rotor.
