Detented Slide Switch and Dual Switch Actuator
Dual state of the art switches operate under control of a captured rocker arm
which can be moved by an external actuator, such as a slide arrangement having
deformable detent lobes.
Switches 10 and 11 in Fig. 1 are mounted in fixed relation as shown, with
rocker arm or lever 12 captured between them. Spring-biased plunger/actuators
15 and 16 of switches 10 and 11, respectively, are received within recesses 18
and 19 of arm 12, shown partially broken and sectioned to illustrate the
interrelationship between nub 16 and recess 18. As slide actuator 20 is moved
upwardly so that cam face 21 pushes lever 12 upward, lever 12 rotates about
plungers 15 and 16, forcing one plunger to be closed while pivoting about the
other, and then vice versa. Nub 24 prevents lever 12 from displacing laterally.
Downward movement of external actuator 20 results in the release of pressure
from lever 12, which returns to its neutral position in response to the outwardly
directed spring bias force supplied to plungers 15 and 16. This switch
arrangement is particularly well suited for dual-switch interlocking, as for power
removal from apparatus.
A typical slide switch useful for external actuator 20 is shown in Fig. 2. Plate
30 is mounted to the frame, as by lugs 31 and 32, with slide handle 34 being
