This search box also supports the look-up of an IP.com Digital Signature (also referred to as Fingerprint); enter the 72-, 48-, or 32-character code to retrieve details of the associated file or submission.
Concept Search - What can I type?
For a concept search, you can enter phrases, sentences, or full paragraphs in English. For example, copy and paste the abstract of a patent application or paragraphs from an article.
Concept search eliminates the need for complex Boolean syntax to inform retrieval. Our Semantic Gist engine uses advanced cognitive semantic analysis to extract the meaning of data. This reduces the chances of missing valuable information, that may result from traditional keyword searching.

Measuring Fuser Contact
The amount that the surface of a copier's hot roll is compressed by the
backup roll is accurately measured.
Uneven surface compression degrades copier performance. Conventional
measurement techniques are either expensive and complex or inaccurate. Here,
a simple but accurate measurement is possible in the field without requiring
A thin carrier 2 (Fig. 1) is placed between the rolls and connected to an
appropriate display which indicates the roll-to-roll contact area at selected points
along the compressed surface. Membrane switches 1, provided on the carrier,
are connected to the display via conductors 3. Each switch 1 comprises
conductors 4 (Fig. 2) mounted on an insulator 6 and a conductor 5 supported by
an insulated separator 8 and a membrane 7.
Compressing the membrane 7 relative to the insulator 6 causes conductors 4
and 5 to come into contact. The number of conductors 4 in contact with
conductor 5 depends upon the extent of the force applied between membrane 7
and insulator 6. Thus, when carrier 2 is inserted between the rolls, the number of
contact closures indicates (depending upon the orientation of the switches 1) the
extent of the compressed surface in terms of width, length and pressure.
