Light Distribution Test Segment
This article describes a unique light distribution test device used for
positioning the lamps in a step and repeat camera.
Fig. 1 illustrates in schematic form a typical step and repeat illuminator
having a light source 10 for containment within a parabolic reflector 3. The
source 10 can be positioned in an XY direction by knobs 11 and 12. Because
step and repeat cameras are used for critical operations, it is necessary that light
distribution through the lens of the camera be uniform. To achieve this, the light
source 10 must be positioned exactly at the focal point of the reflector. As the
lamp ages, the intensity of its output light distribution can shift.
To assure even light distribution, a unique segment shown in Fig. 2, is
positioned in the camera at point 18. The size of the plate is appropriate to fit
into the particular camera. This segment is basically a flat plate 20 having four
guide slots 21, 22, 23 and 24 positioned on the diagonals of the plate, in each of
which there is located a respective slider mechanism 25, 26, 27 and 28,
positioned so as to be able to cover holes 29, 30, 31 and 32. Each hole is
located at one end of a respective slot. Each of the slider mechanisms is
provided with a suitable arm so that the slider mechanisms can be freely slid
back and forth in the slot to cover and uncover the hole.
