Abstract

By relocating the vacuum port of a "vacuum funnel" to a position close to the workpiece, fogging of the vacuum funnel viewing window is avoided. Fig. 1 illustrates a conventional vacuum funnel 7 having three main design features: (a) A vacuum applied to the interior via port 3 holds a small workpiece or part 4 against the tip 1. (b) A solid window 2 provides optical access to the part 4. (c) Mechanical constraints preclude significant dimensional changes.
