The distance between a satellite in space and an antenna on earth is determined by measuring the propagation time of a binary signal transmitted to the satellite and retransmitted from the satellite to earth. Adverse influences of spatial disturbances are eliminated by performing the measurements only after a minimum number of non-erroneous standard binary signals have been received.
