Abstract

The drawing shows a television display 2 and a system for displaying a program from a source 3 of limited capacity, such as an audio magnetic tape cassette. The system includes four binary storage buffers 5-8, each having a storage capacity for one-quarter of the screen of display 2. Each buffer can have sufficient capacity to hold one-quarter of an entire video frame or it can have only a limited capacity to hold codes that represent alphanumeric characters or other characters for one quarter of the display. A digital-to-television signal converter 9 receives the output from any buffer that is read and produces a corresponding signal for the television display on line 10. Circuit 9 includes a character generator that responds to codes read from a buffer.
