Contemporary central complexes of data processing systems have main store elements adapted for exchanging information, in word and byte units, with central processor elements and I/O channel elements. Such systems also may have cache buffer stores which have lesser capacity but faster accessibility than main stores and are organized for exchanging data with main stores in line units of, for example, 64 bytes. Cache buffers thereby provide associated central processor elements with high speed access to data words currently stored in cache.
