Abstract

The ultimate track densities in magnetic disk files can be obtained only through the use of a buried servo layer on the data disk. The prior-art approach with thin film disks has been to use a dual magnetic layer disk with the servo layer being under the data layer and having a significantly higher coercivity, as shown in Fig. 1.
