GaAs Laser Array and Fiber Optic Detector Array for Disc Application

It has been difficult to realize the inherent advantages in using a GaAs laser in place of the HeNe laser ordinarily used in disc applications because the large divergent angle of a GaAs laser junction make it too difficult to achieve a Mum spot beam. A different approach is here described using a GaAs laser array to produce a line source instead of a spot source together with an electronically scanned fiber-optic detector array.
