Overlapping Viewport Management

The present article relates to the subject of the management of computer displays, primarily for alphanumeric and image data. One technique to do this is to assign each data source to a "viewport", a rectangular area on the display screen. If the data in one viewport "hides" the data in another because the viewports overlap, then the data in the "closest" viewport is visible, while the user is reminded that data exists in the overlapped viewport even though it cannot all be seen.
