Efficient Movement of Structured Graphic Objects on Raster Devices

A technique is described whereby smooth and efficient movement of structured graphic objects are provided on display rasters without repeated computation of its raster image. Also, the objects affected by the movement of the concerned object do not have their screen images disturbed and redrawing is not required when an object is moved. The concept is an improvement over previous approaches in that flickering is eliminated, which normally accompanies repeated screen computations. In structured graphic editors, editable objects are typically represented by a display list or a segment list which describes the structure in high-level terms, such as a list of integer pairs representing an enclosed polygon.
