A method is described which allows a personal computer graphics printer to serve as a hard copy unit. Hard copies of the picture on a Tektronix 614, 616 or 618 display are normally generated on a Tektronix Hard Copy Unit. A good reproduction is generated in less than half a minute. Unfortunately, these hard copy units are often unavailable due to cost and space constraints. A possible alternative would be to generate the picture on a personal computer (PC) printer since they are widely available. In accordance with the new method, the PC hard copy unit emulator (PCHCE) converts the information from the tube's hard copy interface into a graphical print stream for the PC printer. This conversion requires special hardware since two analog signals must be generated.
