The double-sided SMT panel 10, as shown in the figure, is placed on top of vacuum cup 14. At this point in time, the panel is warped and wavy and needs to be flat before SMC placement. When vacuum is drawn inside the Z-Vacuum Locator, the vacuum cup 14 sucks the panel 10 down, approximately 2.00 mm. vertically, against the stand-off 15. At this point in time, panel 1 is locally situated at an accurate elevation by stand-off 15. A number of Z-Vacuum Locators, under the entire surface of the full size panel, makes panel 10 flat throughout its surface. Initial air flows into the Z-Vacuum Locator via 8 air ports 16, line hole 17, and five air ports 18. Air flow finally exits the Z-Vacuum Locator by the vacuum port 19.
