This article describes a method for plating the contact tabs of the card edge contacts on printed circuit (PC) cards. The plating process typically used to plate the contact tabs is to connect the tabs directly to a plating bar which runs perpendicular to the tabs as shown in the drawing. This method is effective for plating tabs which extend full length as the plating bar is cut off of the end of the tab after the gold (or other metal) has been plated onto the tabs. Personal computers where many skill levels are involved in changing PC cards in the office or at home, require an additional level of protection designed into the user's equipment to ensure that neither these cards nor the systems are damaged during installation or replacement of the cards used by the user.
