A method is described to allow Underline and Bold to be performed as block operations. The method provides the capability to define a block of text and insert the corresponding controls (Begin/End Underline, Begin/End Bold or Begin/End Overstrike) in one operation. These functions save keystrokes. They make it possible for the user, in one operation, to instruct the system to insert the needed controls. This eliminates having to perform two separate operations to insert the Begin/End controls. This improves both usability and performance. With the cursor at the beginning of the text to which a style change is to be applied, the operator selects the block functions and the desired style change.
