A method to remove style characteristics from a block of text is described. This new method for the DisplayWrite 4 text processing program allows the user to easily specify a range of text from which all existing imbedded style controls, i.e., Overstrike, Underline, Bold and Mark, are removed. This function preserves the active states at the start of the block and at the end of the block. For example, in the case where Bold extends beyond the region marked for PLAIN, an appropriate Begin Bold control is inserted at the end of the marked region. This maintains the active state which is present in the existing unmarked text.
