Abstract

A method is described which reduces the number of steps a user has to go through in order to begin using the IBM DisplayWrite 4 (DW4) text processing program. The DW4 code configures itself based on information it finds in the profile. The profile contains information about how the user wants the documents formatted, path information where different document components are located, the types of printers attached to the system, information about the keyboard, what mouse is attached, etc. On DisplayWrite 4, a profile is shipped containing default information that would be typical of a wide range of users doing word processing work. After running the installation program, a batch file is generated to load DisplayWrite 4.
