The present disclosure describes a type of neural stimulation strategy that includes new applications within spectral mapping. The present strategy provides a reduced noise envelope detection, reduced processing requirements, spectral separation for flexibility in current steering strategies, frequency sliding, and the ability to integrate with microphone array beamforming algorithms. The present stimulation strategy also covers spectral mapping that has complex inputs (requiring a complex output from the Fine Time Structure (FFT)) and complex outputs, has states or memory, and can be time-variant.
