A modem network provides data transmission from a personal computer (PC) which is located at an external (vendor location) site to an internal system and performs statistical analysis on an internal VM system. The following network configuration illustrates the technique. All equipment in the network must be compatible. A vendor to be included in the network has a PC and a Hayes Smart* modem with the capacity to transfer data at a rate of 1200 bits per second. A Maxwell 1200v modem, produced by Racal Vadic** allows the vendor to transfer ASCII text files with error-checking capabilities performed using a parity bit. Any Federal Communications Commission-approved telephone line can be used. The flowchart illustrates how the network works.
