Self-Cleaning Furnace With Gravity-Maintained Heat Zones

An improved furnace system is described whereby gravity aids in the proper gas flow so that sublimation and other contaminant substances which may be deposited on the products in process are minimized. In conventional horizontal-flow furnaces an inherent contamination situation exists. Substances which outdiffuse from the product combine or are carried by the gas flow. These contaminant substances either redeposit directly on the immediate product or deposit on the furnace walls where they may fall or redeposit on succeeding product. In addition to the spoiled product, frequent shutdown and cleaning of the furnace is required to minimize the deleterious effect. The new system is a vertical belt furnace which is suitable for continuous feeding of the products into and out of the system.
