A method is described which provides an approach for selection of different user conceptual models for the system user interface. In current computing systems, a single user conceptual model of the system user interface is provided. The model typically supports a single view that all users are supposed to learn and apply to the system. Typical models include a physical model, the physical desktop, etc. There is no approach to allow the end user to select from a set of available user models in order to better match the computer and its user interface to the user's environment. The proposed technique is a method for providing a set of user models to be provided in the system. The models provide different views of the system to the user. The user can select one of the models to support the user interface for the system.
