A method is described which provides an architected approach for a semantically and syntactically consistent user interface for an automated trigger function that can be used across multiple applications and systems. In current computing systems, trigger functions are handled in many different manners. There is no consistent approach to creating, modifying, and using automated triggers in multiple applications within the same computer system nor in the same applications across computer systems. The process of learning the different approaches, functions, and user interfaces is time consuming, requiring extra time to understand differences, master different techniques, and to correct errors resultant from the inconsistencies. This impacts user productivity and satisfaction with the computer product.
