A method is described which permits an IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program which utilizes Synchronous Network Architecture (SNA) protocol within its own network to support attachment to both SNA and non-SNA control units. The PC Network 3270 Release 1 program supports SNA attachment protocol to a host and utilizes this protocol as the internal network protocol. PC Network 3270 Release 2 supports attachment to 3270 control units of various protocols (SNA, non-SNA local attach, and BSC). These various protocols need to be supported across the network. In accordance with the new method, a mapping of the SNA protocol to/from the non-SNA protocols is provided. This process is centralized along with the Distributed Function Terminal (DFT) attach function into a single component of code. The advantages include: 1.
