Abstract

Power consumption of logic modules has steadily grown as a result of improvements in semiconductor density. The reduction of operating potential in small feature semiconductor equipment places greater demands on the power system for "clean" power. The amount of electrical current necessary to supply a given power increases inversely with the reduction of the operating potential. The opposing needs to deliver high current at lower potentials and still retain or improve the regulation to the component will require very different approaches to satisfy future system needs. (Image Omitted) Power for pluggable modules has typically been supplied from the connector pins along with the various signal and control lines.
