An automated workstation is equipped to perform two tests on printhead subassemblies: print coil resistance and residual-to-coil adherence. Fig. 1 shows two versions of the Printhead: Printhead (1) with nine Print Coils, and Printhead (2) with eighteen Print Coils, to each of which a corresponding number of Residuals 3 are staked. It is also seen that subassembly 1 has one set of Edge Connectors 4 and that subassembly 2 has a second set of Edge Connectors 5. Connectors of the two subassemblies are offset from one another. Referring to Fig. 2, it is seen that Printhead subassembly 1 or 2 is automatically placed in position 6, with Print Coils facing up and Edge Connectors 4 and 5 to the left. Clamp 7 now moves into position so that Spring Probes 8 make electrical contact with Edge Connector 4 of a subassembly 1.
