A ribbon cartridge, which has a multi-strike ribbon, such as a fabric or nylon ribbon, includes an automatic reversing mechanism for reversing the direction of feed of the ribbon from one of its two spools to the other when the spool supplying the ribbon becomes empty. A ribbon cartridge 1 has a pair of rotatably supported spools 2 and 3. A multi-strike ribbon 4, which may be a fabric or nylon ribbon, for example, extends between the spools 2 and 3. The ribbon 4 passes around a guide pin 5 on an arm 6, which is pivotally mounted on the cartridge 1 by a pivot pin 7. The guide pin 5 is continuously urged into engagement with the ribbon 4 by a spring 8 exerting a force on the arm 6 to continuously urge the arm 6 counterclockwise about the pivot pin 7.
