A test allows a service person to easily determine whether a bidirectional printer has registration in the vertical direction and the correct direction of any required adjustment. In bidirectional printing, a vertical line is produced by the printer moving in each horizontal direction. Thus, it is necessary for the printer to maintain vertical registration for such lines to be vertically aligned. It also is necessary to know in which direction that any adjustment for proper vertical registration must be made. The test consists of printing a first row 1 (Fig. 1) of I's from left to right and then indexing a small amount such as 2/72", for example, and printing a second row 2 of I's from right to left when the printer moves in the opposite direction to that in which the row 1 was printed.
