Parallel Reflow/Placement Vision Image Processing Arrangement for Surface Mounted Components

The configuration of a fine pitch placement machine which will allow reflow of a previously placed surface mounted component while processing the vision image for the next component is described and illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. (Image Omitted) Present fine pitch Surface Mounted Components (SMC) require vision processing of the component actual location relative to the expected location for proper placement. The systems presently available require from 2 to 10 seconds cycle time just to process the video image once the picture has been taken. This time is a significant part of the overall cycle time of the system. At the present time, at least 1 to 2 seconds are wasted waiting for the processing to be completed before the actual placement can occur.
