Assignment Scheme for Round Trip Integrity

A method is described for making the assignments to unmatching code points in a code page-to-code page translation. The method provides round trip integrity, while being algorithmic and thus orderly. An orderly method is needed, so that it can be reproduced in other products and make compatibility in this area much easier to achieve. Currently there are many programming products which have code page-to-code page translation tables. The most common reason for needing a translation table is for ASCII to/from EBCDIC translations. Although there are standards that exist for defining each code page, no standard exists for defining the assignment of unmatching code points between two such code pages (e.g., ASCII, EBCDIC).
