A method is described employing a Master List to allow all work to be done by a component to be prioritized, regulated, and managed efficiently and easily modified/re-prioritized by merely re-ordering the entries comprising the list. The concept of a "Master List" is used in a Data Link Control component which is responsible to manage work requests for particular data links for a communication subsystem. The Master List incorporates three techniques to make processing more efficient: 1.
