Abstract

An automated workstation tests the electrical continuity of print coils, and inserts only good ones into a printhead subassembly. The assembly task is illustrated in Fig. 1 which shows Printhead Subassembly 1 into which Print Coil 2 is inserted with its rectangular center opening 3 fitted over Stator 4. There are two versions of the printhead, one with a semicircle of nine print coils, and a second with a full complement of eighteen print coils, as shown. The workstation handles both versions. Fig. 2 shows the output of the workstation, Printhead Subassembly 5, complete with eighteen Print Coils 2. Refer to Fig. 3. The Printhead Subassembly 1 is brought into the workstation on Pallet 6.
